We are looking for an experienced Senior Business Analyst – Data & Analytics to support data and analytics initiatives across multiple client projects.
This is not a traditional software-focused Business Analyst role. The position combines strong business analysis and stakeholder management capabilities with hands-on data analysis. The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, analytics engineers and solution architects to understand business requirements, analyse source systems and underlying data, identify data issues, and translate findings into clear requirements and documentation for delivery teams.
The role requires someone who is comfortable working directly with data and can independently investigate datasets and source systems rather than relying solely on technical teams for analysis.
Engage with business and technical stakeholders to gather, clarify and document business and data requirements.
Perform source system analysis to understand available data, structures, relationships and dependencies.
Conduct data triage and exploratory data analysis to assess data availability, completeness, consistency and suitability for project requirements.
Analyse complex datasets using SQL and other analytical tools to identify patterns, gaps, anomalies and data quality issues.
Translate business requirements and analytical findings into clear documentation for data and engineering teams.
Document data sources, business rules, data mappings, requirements, assumptions and identified gaps.
Work closely with Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers and Solution Architects to ensure business requirements are correctly reflected in data solutions.
Support data discovery and requirements definition during the early stages of client projects.
Assist in defining data requirements for analytical models, reporting and decision-support solutions.
Validate data outputs and analytical solutions against agreed business requirements.
Facilitate workshops and discussions between business and technical stakeholders.
Identify gaps between business requirements and available source data and communicate their impact to relevant stakeholders.
Support data quality investigations and help define appropriate business rules and validation requirements.
Produce clear and structured documentation that can be used throughout solution design and implementation.
Support multiple data and analytics initiatives as business and project priorities evolve.
5+ years of experience in Business Analysis, Data Analysis, Analytics Engineering, BI or a similar data-focused role.
Strong experience working on data and analytics projects.
Proven experience gathering and documenting business and data requirements.
Hands-on experience analysing complex datasets.
Advanced SQL skills for data investigation, validation and analysis.
Experience performing source system and data analysis.
Strong understanding of data structures, relationships and data flows.
Experience with data profiling, data validation and identifying data quality issues.
Ability to translate business requirements into clear specifications for technical and data teams.
Experience documenting business rules, data mappings, requirements and analytical findings.
Strong stakeholder management and requirements facilitation skills.
Good understanding of data modelling and data warehousing concepts.
Experience working closely with Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, BI teams and/or Solution Architects.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate technical and data-related findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to work independently across multiple projects and stakeholder groups.
Python experience for data analysis and data exploration.
Experience with BI and visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik or Looker.
Experience with modern cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery or similar.
Experience with dimensional modelling and analytical data models.
Exposure to enterprise data integration and ETL/ELT processes.
Experience working with large and complex enterprise datasets.
Experience within retail, healthcare or other data-intensive environments.
We are looking for someone who combines the strengths of a Business Analyst and a hands-on data professional.
The successful candidate should be able to speak with stakeholders to understand a business problem and then work directly with the underlying systems and data to investigate it. They should be comfortable using SQL to analyse and validate data, identifying gaps or quality issues, documenting findings and working with engineering teams to turn those findings into practical data solutions.
The role is therefore particularly suited to a data-focused Business Analyst, Senior Data Analyst or Analytics Engineer with strong business and stakeholder-facing experience, rather than a traditional Business Analyst whose experience is primarily focused on software requirements and process documentation.
